Story about me

When I left teaching statistics in 1997, I never imagine after 20 years that I'm going back in re-learning the science of data analysis and a new cult called machine learning.   Since then, a lot of things has changed about computing ideas and knowledge has become easily accessible in many ways. However, these ideas and knowledge are not new.  Statistics theories that started in the from 1800's until mid 50's are now revived and gained popularity known as "data science".

I come across this website about career enrichment https://80000hours.org/ when I looking for career advise. It says on the average, a person spends about 80,000 hrs of his lifetime working on this career. I realized that I have spent half of my entire career into software engineer but still I am looking for a career combines all my talents and skills then at the same time fulfilling.  At this point, I decided that I should go back to my roots and re-learning statistics and at the same time apply my experience on computer programming.  Thus, this is what I am today, a mix of statistician and software engineer, rolled into one.
